My First Post

We have several experiences where we failed, succeed and learnt from it that we want to share with others.

To be honest, I am not a fan of Jack Ma, but his idea backs up what we want to do here:

“Instead of learning from other people’s success, learn from their mistakes. Most of the people who fail share common reasons (to fail), whereas success can be attributed to various different kinds of reasons.”

The problem

It took us some time to decide if we share what we learn along the way with others in a form of a website, blog or videos. The problem was some free platforms makes us the product and don’t care showing adult content to kids.

In the other hand, choosing a name that helps identify our content was quite ease, we chose SmartParent because we hope our content will help you learn for others’ (us) mistakes and that makes you smarter.

Solution

We took the blog path because we will push us to learn something new and it was easy to convince my son after showing the difference between creating a page using HTML and Markdown. The content created was converted into webpages by GoHugo. Yes, I am aware there are tools ready to use like WordPress, Joomla or Drupal, but those will not expose my son to technicallities I want him to learn.

Mistakes

Taking much time to decide was an error. Over the lockdown we had much time in our hands that we used to learn new skills like drawing vectors using Inkspace and Affinity Designer, creating 3D objects on the computer using Blender but we had our lessons from errors we did not record so we could not share them here. These mistakes section will be present on most of our posts.

Notes

These are some sites that we found useful on our way:

  • Stackedit A web based Markdown editor where you can start practicing and later publish Google Drive, Github and others.
  • Markdown Guide Explains what is Markdown and how to use it.
  • Markdown Tutorials A hands-on tutorial.
